A Blow to the Hoop

Dr Richard van der Ross tells us of a life lived in troubled times, in which his decisions took him into public life in a turbulent society, a life of scholarship and writing, and of actvism, leadership and service, celebration, adaptation and even compromise which sometimes led to alienation from those he sought to serve. In his long, distinguished career in education, journalism, administration, politics and diplomacy, he soon realised that decision in such societies would meet universal approval.
