Copy of Mo Skikne, author of the book on Brakpan Jewry.

Zjembin was a tiny shtetl in White Russia with four streets and a market square. When Napoleon and his army staggered through on their retreat from Moscow in 1812, they were watched anxiously by two young brothers, Zalmon and Avrom, ancestors of the Shifrin family. Around the turn of the century many Shifrins emigrated to the New World in search of better lives. Others remained in Europe.

Geoff Sifrin is a great-great-great-grandson of Zalmon. These stories trace generations of Shifrins from 1804 to 1995, providing glimpses into their lives in Europe, South Africa and the USA.
