A touching story about the interwoven lives of the community in Wellington. Miss Girlie, a teacher from the coloured community, remembers the forced removals of the 1950s and dreams of the tall white man who is coming to fetch her. Lambert, youngest son of a farmer falls in love with Miss Girlie when he is still a boy. But his love remains unrequited because of Apartheid legislation. Lettie is married to Lambert's older brother, Boeta, the difficult and lustful owner of the farm Weltevrede.
